Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) is a chronic disease that is caused when the Kidneys filtering is damaged. It can occur in any age but it more prevalent in children. The course of therapy requires careful attention to the childs health condition especially infection and management of medication. Due to a complicated treatment plan, the chance of relapse is high. However, adolescents are able to help in their own care by protecting themselves from such complication. The purpose of this study was to describe health promotion behaviors of adolescents with NS. Penders health promotion model provided the conceptual framework for this study as this model focus on general competence of self care, nutritional practice exercise and other activities, sleep pattern, self-actualization, sense of purpose, relationship with others, environmental controls, stress management and use of health care system. Data was collected using purposive sampling among 50 adolescents with NS who received treatment at Pediatric Nephro Clinic, Out Patient Department at Maharaj Nakirn Chiang Mai Hospital. The study found that adolescents with NS (50%) had total score of health promoting behaviors in high level. Most of them had high level in 7 dimensions, there were general competence of self care (88%), nutritional practice (70%), self actualization (72%), sense of purpose (70%), relationship with others (74%), environmental controls (54%), use of health care system (50%), and had moderate level of health promoting behaviors in stress management (94%), exercise and other activities (68%) and sleep patterns (62%). The result of this study suggests that the nurses should be enhancing health promoting behaviors in adolescents with NS by emphasizing on stress management, exercise and other activities and sleep patterns.
