Effects of a Caregivers’ Competencies Enhancing Program in Caring for Elderly
           Persons with Bed-ridden in Communities

           Background: Care of eldery person with bed-ridden has impacts on clients’ outcomes and their
           quality of life. Caregiver play a vital role in caring and supporting elderly individuals with such
           dependency needs. Thus, caregivers’ competencies are important for providing long term care
           for elderly persons with bed-ridden in communities. Enhancing program can facilitate succesful
           caregiving through understanding of a caregiver’s competencies and goals.


           Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a caregivers’ competencies enhancing
           program in caring for eldery persons with bed-ridden in communities.


           Methods: The study was conducted in 5 communities, Chiang Mai from July to December 2023. The 42
           caregivers who undergo a 70-hour training course by the Department of Health, MoPH were selected
           by purposive sampling. The 30-hour of Caregivers’ Competencies Enhancing Program utilizing
           technology and innovation was developed by using community participation concept.Data were
           collected through focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires. The data were
           analyzed with descriptive, pair t–test statistics, synthesized, and summarized to draw conclusions.


           Results: The results showed that the participants had mean scores of the knowledge and practices
           in caring for elderly persons with bed-ridden in communities than befire receiving the 30-hour of
           caregivers’ competencies enhancing program utilizing technology and innovation (p<0.05).

           Conclusion: The results revealed that a 30-hour of caregivers’ competencies enhancing program
           utilizing technology and innoation including manuals, caregiver4.0 application, video, learning
           activities, and devices to complement the program can be used as a guideline to promote
           caregivers’ competencies in caring for elderly persons with bed-ridden in communities in order to
           enhance knowledge, ability and confidence of caregivers for taking care of elderly persons with
           bed-ridden effectively and efficient. A significant development was also the establishment of an
           operational reserch agreement network under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) from 5
           settings.
