Background: Europe and Central Asia, 23%; East Asia and the Pacific, 24%; Latin America and the
Caribbean, 24%; Middle East and North Africa, 25%; Sub-Saharan Africa, 25%; North America, 27%; South
Asia, 29%) have high rates of Bacterial Vaginosis (BV). Higher prevalence (33% and 31%) was seen in
North America among black and Hispanic women, compared to white (23%), and Asian (11%; P < 0.01).
BV affects 15–50% of reproductive-age women.
Objective: To identify research trends, collaboration patterns, research impact, and characteristics of
scientific publications regarding bacterial vaginosis.
Methods: This study employs a bibliometric analytic design to retrieve research publications utilizing
the Publish or Perish tools and the Google Scholar database. The retrieved articles span from 2013 to
2023. The data analysis and visual mapping were performed using VOSviewer.
Results: The analysis produced the following results: there are 997 articles, with a total of 42,104
citations over a span of 10 years. This gives an average of 4,210.4 citations per year and 42.23
citations per paper. The average number of papers per author is 326.31, while the average number Oral Presentation Abstracts
of authors per paper is 3.75. The h-index is 102 and the g-index is 164. From the results of visualisation
with vosviewer obtained there are still many research variables that need to be done on bacterial
vaginosis, such as research using local products containing lactobacillus against bacterial vaginosis.
Conclusion: The vosviewer visualization suggests more investigation on bacterial vaginosis,
particularly using local lactobacillus products.
Keywords: bacterial vaginosis, bibliometric, literature review, trend BV
