Development of the Nursing Practice Guidelines for Pain Management Among
Cancer Patients: Implementation Research

Background: Pain is a significannt problem for cancer pateins, influencing their quality of life. Clinical
nursing guidelines for pain management should be used to relieve their pain effectively.
Objective: To develop nursing practice guidlines (CNPGs) for cancer pain management.
Methods: Developement of the Nursing Practice Guidelines based on the ADAPTE Collaboration (2009)
consists of 3 phases: 1) set up phase, 2) adaptation phase, and 3) finalization phase. The reseach instument
includes 1) a guideline screening tool, 2) the Appraisal of the Guideline for Reseach & Evaluation II Thai
version, 3) a patient screening form, and 4) a clinical outcome and process outcome evaluation form. Data
was analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Oral Presentation Abstracts
Results: The results demonstated that the CNPGs consisted of five key components: protecting
pateint rights, pain assessment, pain management, self-pain management education, and
monitoring adherence. Experts found the guidelines suitable for clinical settings and feasible, with
21 times reporting relief from pain every time they experienced it. Patients and healthcare personnel
express strong satisfaction with these CNPGs.
