Background: As globalization progresses, the number of nursing universities incorporating overseas
training in Japan is increasing. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology,
Japan, has also listed “the development of nurses who can respond to globalization” as one of its
policies. However, depending on the university, there is a high degree of freedom in the learning goals
and content, and there are few studies that focus on the evaluation method. It has been pointed out
that reflection is not a new concept in the teaching of higher education, and in many cases it is an
important element of many professional courses, but it remains superficial without intervention.

Objective: Classify what nursing students in Japan learn from overseas training to discuss on the
program design and the role of faculty members.

Methods: Among the reports of students who participated in overseas training, the descriptions of
self-evaluation based on the learning goals specified on the syllabus were used as data, classified
using Peter Papas’s “Taxonomy of Student Reflections”, and the contents were qualitatively analyzed.

Results: The most common description that could be extracted from the students’ reflection was
“Bloom’s Understanding” such as constructing meaning from oral, written, or graphic messages. Then
“Bloom’s Analyzing” and “Bloom’s Evaluating” were followed. “Apply Bloom” and “Bloom’s Creating were
           only a couple of describing.

Conclusion: Although the students who had no clinical experience were not able to give sufficient
opinions on how to apply what they saw and learned in the overseas training to their future nursing,
it was shown that what they saw and heard was organized as learning
