Background: Chronic kidney disease morbidity and hemodialysis treatment rates are increasing every
year, and hemodialysis treatment is a complex therapy. Self-management is one of the methods shown
to be helpful. Hemodialysis patients work with health providers to solve the patients’s problem.
Self-management among hemodialysis patients is popular but still complex and ambiguous. Ambiguity
regarding the intention of self-management in hemodialysis patients can cause confusion and
misunderstanding among health professionals about the purpose and application in the clinical situation.
A distinctive definition regarding self-management for hemodialysis patients is required for clinical setting
           implications and future research.

Objective: The study aimed to clarify and reinforce the concept of self-management in hemodialysis
           patients.

Methods: The researcher used Walker and Avant’s concept (2019) analysis to outline the meaning of
           self-management for hemodialysis patients.

Results: Attributes of self-management in hemodialysis patients were the process and skills of an
individual’s ability to clarify symptoms and continue treatment management, with self-efficacy,
self-monitoring, self-advocacy, access to resource utilizations, and family and health provider
partnerships to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The explanation includes antecedents, consequences,
and empirical referents. The researcher clarifies the concept by explaining model, borderline, related,
           and contrary cases.

Conclusion: Defining the concept can help the researcher solve the patient’s problem about cooperation
                                                                                                                      Poster Presentation Abstracts
among patients with family and health providers. Health professionals can advocate for antecedents in
self-management and evolve interventions to support self-management attributes to serve patients in
           preventing complications.
