Background: Women are at high risk of harmful alcohol use. Hence, it is necessary to provide early
intervention for any alcohol use disorders they may have.

Objective: This study’s objective is to identify the necessary features of learning resources for women
           who have alcohol dependence.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted from July to October of 2023 with a patient
who had an alcohol dependence and four nurses who were experts in addiction medicine. Data were
collected using a semi-structured interview guide. The interviewees were asked what features should
necessarily be included in learning resources for women with alcohol dependence. The content of the
interviews was based on “attention,” “relevance,” “confidence,” and “satisfaction.” These are the four
elements of the Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS) model, which focuses on
motivation for learning. A cluster analysis was performed using KH coder (Ver. 3.0), with verbatim
transcripts as data. The researchers aggregated each cluster’s data according to its meaningful
content, and decided on the cluster names. Guba and Lincoln’s criteria were used to increase
research validity and reliability. For ethical considerations, approval was obtained from the Ethics
Committee on Epidemiological Studies, Kagoshima University.

Results: Hierarchical cluster analysis yielded five clusters: [drinking problems associated with
women’s life events], [information on drinking, childbirth, and menstruation], [information on creating
a path to recovery], [characteristics of alcohol dependency and gender differences], and [how to
           regulate emotions].

Conclusion: It was indicated that, when creating learning resources, it is necessary to provide
information regarding women’s biology, life events, emotional regulation, and information on creating
           a path to recovery.
