Background: Pulmonary rehabilitation self-efficacy is a factor related to pulmonary rehabilitation
behavior.
Objective: This correlational descriptive research aimed to investigate pulmonary rehabilitation
self-efficacy, pulmonary rehabilitation behavior and the relationship between pulmonary
rehabilitation self-efficacy and pulmonary rehabilitation behaviors among older persons with chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease.
Methods: Participants were older persons with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease attending at
Lee Hospital, Lamphun province. The 93 participants were ransomly selected using sampling without
replacement during December 2023 - February 2024. The research instruments were a demographic
and illness data recording form, a pulmonary rehabilitation self-efficacy measurement and
pulmonary rehabilitation behaviors measurement. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics
and Pearson’s product-moment correlation.
Results: An average duration of being diagnosed with COPD is 6.47 years (SD.7.20). About half of
participants (52.69%) has mild severity of the disease. All participants receives bronchodilator inhaler
and pulmonary rehabilitation. About one-third of participants (39.78%) has been hospitalized from
exacerbation 1-2 times a year. The participants had moderate levels of self-efficacy in pulmonary
rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation behavior, and that pulmonary rehabilitation self-efficacy
Oral Presentation Abstracts
had a high positive correlation with pulmonary rehabilitation behavior among older persons with
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (r = 0.879 at p < 0.01.
Conclusion: The results of this study can be used as information for health care professionals caring
for older persons with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease to promote pulmonary rehabilitation
self-efficacy and pulmonary rehabilitation behaviors among older persons with chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease.
