Background: Epilepsy is classified as a chronic illness that requires constant medication. However, most
Epilepsy patients with developmental delays lack continuous medication and family participation to take
care of their medication that is the important cause to makes them to get acute recurrent seizures. Thus,
the participation of patients and family members is important for preventing the frequency of recurrent
seizures. Nurse practitioners should design innovations that encourage patients and family members to
have confidence and medication management for taking care of their medication correctly, complete,
           continuous, and consistent.

Objective: To design and develop innovations to promote medication management in Epilepsy
patients with developmental delays through applied the Self-efficacy theory.

Methods: Nurse practitioners conduct a comprehensive health assessment and analyze factors that
influence the patient’s medication both individual and family level based on the patients’ context and
           lifestyle.

Design and develop innovations to promote medication management based on the Self-efficacy
theory for Epilepsy patients with developmental delays.

Implement the medication management plan based on self-efficacy theory and “Harmonic Medicine
Bag Calendar” innovation together with practicing medication management skills.

Follow-up and evaluate health outcomes in the short term, intermediate term, and long term.

Results: Short-term outcome: Patient and family cooperate in taking care of medication.
Intermediate outcome: Patient and family have skill in medication management and check the amount of
                                                                                                                      Poster Presentation Abstracts
medicine for patients can take the medicine correctly, complete, continuous, and consistent.

Long term outcome: Patient does not have recurrent seizures. Family can manage the acute seizures that
           occur.

Conclusion: Promoting participation in medication care for Epilepsy patients with developmental
delays is important to ensure that patients receive continuous medication to reduce the frequency of
recurrent seizures and reduce injuries from acute seizures.
