Research on the Application of Advanced Practice Nurse in Perioperative Nursing
of Liver Transplantation Patients

Background: Liver transplantation surgery has a long duration, significant trauma, and a high
incidence of postoperative complications. Perioperative nursing for liver transplantation is complex
and difficult, with high demands on nurses. Advanced practice nurse (APN) plays a positive role in
ensuring high-quality and safe perioperative nursing for liver transplant patients.

Objective: This study aims to summarize the work content and effectiveness of liver transplantation
APN, providing reference for the cultivation and clinical practice of liver transplantation APN in the
future.

Methods: This study is a retrospective survey. Review relevant literature, and summarize the role and
significance of APN in preoperative and postoperative nursing of liver transplant patients, as well as
the current application status of APN in perioperative nursing of liver transplant patients. Taking the
APN of a liver transplantation center in a tertiary hospital in Chengdu as an example, summarize the
work content and workflow of liver transplantation APN. We collected data on the number of rescue
attempts and deaths among liver transplant patients as outcome measures.

Results: This study investigated a total of 202 liver transplant patients. After six months of clinical pilot
work for liver transplantation APN, the number of patient reductions per month decreased from 5.571
to 2.167 (p<0.05), and the number of patient deaths per month decreased from 0.286 to 0.167 (p<0.05).
The condition of critically ill patients was well controlled.

Conclusion: APN plays an important role in the perioperative care of liver transplant patients. The pilot
application experience of liver transplant APN provides a reference basis for the further in-depth and
widespread promotion of liver transplant APN work in the future.
