In line with the paradigm shift in nursing education, there has also been a change in the focus of
nursing research. The increasing value placed on context in healthcare has led to a greater emphasis
on qualitative data in nursing research. As a result, nursing professionals are expected to be equipped
with both quantitative and qualitative research skills, with a stronger focus on qualitative skills than
before. This shift in research priorities enables nursing professionals to better understand and interpret
patients’ experiences and perceptions, which in turn informs and improves their practice. To embrace
the increasing value placed on qualitative data, HKU Nursing has taken the initiative to establish the
Asia-Pacific Qualitative Health Research Network (AQUHN). This network serves as a training and
collaboration platform for qualitative research, connecting researchers, educators, and practitioners
across the Asia-Pacific region to share knowledge, resources, and expertise in qualitative health
research.
In conclusion, the paradigm shift in educating nursing professionals in the era of AI is characterized
by the integration of high technology and humanity, the response of institutions like HKU Nursing to
these changes, and the evolving focus of nursing research on qualitative data. By embracing this
shift, nursing professionals can better meet the challenges of today’s healthcare landscape, providing
comprehensive and compassionate care that harnesses the power of technology while never losing
sight of the human element.
