Abstract: Strengthening Research Outcomes Through Interdisciplinary Collaboration: A Global
Perspective with Insights from Taiwan
Interdisciplinary collaboration is vital for enhancing research outcomes, providing a platform for
diverse perspectives and innovative solutions. Globally, this approach is increasingly recognized
as essential for addressing complex healthcare challenges. Taiwan, with its advanced healthcare
infrastructure, exemplifies how interdisciplinary collaboration can recalibrate nursing research
priorities for maximum impact.
We conducted a mixed-method approach to identify and address nursing research trends in Taiwan.
This included text mining academic databases, conducting online surveys within the academic
community, performing rapid reviews of literature, and hosting consensus roundtable discussions
with leading nursing scientists. Key findings from these activities highlight critical areas of focus
essential for both Taiwan and the global nursing research community.
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and smart technology in healthcare is revolutionizing
nursing practices. In Taiwan, research increasingly emphasizes the use of digital tools such as
telemedicine, electronic health records, AIoT, and AI-driven risk prediction and stratification. These
technologies transform patient care and streamline nursing workflows by improving efficiency,
reducing administrative burdens, and enabling nurses to focus more on direct patient care.
Taiwan faces a growing burden of chronic diseases and aged care due to its aging population.
Innovative research efforts are directed towards managing chronic conditions, enhancing quality of
life, and reducing healthcare costs through preventive and long-term care strategies. Collaboration
is a key driver in advancing nursing research. Taiwanese nursing scientists actively engage in
interdisciplinary and academia-industry partnerships, sharing knowledge and resources to tackle
health challenges. This collaborative spirit fosters a rich exchange of ideas and drives innovation in
nursing research, ensuring that research findings are comprehensive and applicable across different
contexts.
