Greetings from Conference Co-Hosts

           Duke University School of Nursing

Welcome to the 2024 Global Health Recalibration: Strengthening
Outcomes, Education, Clinical Practice, and Research conference
organized by the Faculty of Nursing at Chiang Mai University. The Duke
University School of Nursing is honored to serve as a co-sponsor of this
important conference. As we transcend the recent SARS-CoV-2 and

Covid-19 pandemics, the global community, including nursing and
midwifery, appreciate the need for a recalibration of educational systems,
practice delivery models, and research truly recognizing that we are indeed

a global community. These pandemics provided further evidence of what
was already known – the social determinants of health are indeed
powerful drivers of health outcomes. Unfortunately, the social
determinants of health, and structural drivers of health, too frequently
yield health inequities and disparate outcomes. As such, our nursing and

midwifery educational programs must integrate these principles into
curricula. Simultaneously, clinical practice must be redesigned to consider
these issues allowing equitable outcomes. Finally, scientific inquiry in

nursing and midwifery needs to explore nursing models of care that
ameliorate the negative impact of the social determinants of health. I look
forward to the different conference sessions and the discussions that follow
as we come together to recalibrate global health.
